These Precious Things
These images sprang from my desire to return to a more tactile process within my art making. With the use of digital photography and traditional presentation, my images began to feel more transient and disposable, and I felt increasingly disconnected from my work. Utilizing paper negatives to create these images as well as applying epoxy resin and creating an installation allowed me to become intimately connected to the work, and at the same time create objects that are much more tangible.
There seems to be something of sadness, conflict, and grief in the images. At the onset, there was no other concept than to utilize an alternative process to create portraits. As I began to work with the models, however, a common thread began to emerge. The resultant series of photographs seems as much a group of self-portraits as images of others.
